This spectacular Steinway & Sons model “B”, serial number 103153 from the golden age of 1903 has been completely restored to it’s original condition. Restoration work by Reyburn Pianoworks, Inc. and Central Michigan Pianos. Rarely will you see such a complete restoration of such a fine instrument. Restored using the best material and workmanship by highly skilled, Steinway factory-trained craftsmen.

This piano has the original look it did in 1903, however it plays like the finest modern instrument. All restoration is done with performance in mind.

The first pianist to play this piano commented that it plays like “butter” and sounds like a “dream”.

Restoration work by RPW:

1. New RPW keyset, custom designed and built for this instrument. Premium spruce keys with Reyburn Ivocor white keytops, genuine ebony sharp keytops.

2. Beech hardward key buttons and a soft maple shoe for performance and longivety.

3. New Steinway original brass rails installed in action stack.

4. Restoration of keyframe with new cloth and felt, new balance rail, new wood in front rail. New low friction high performance keypins and capstans, new Steinway original glide bolts.

5. All action parts replaced with Renner USA parts, made in Germany. Customization of wippens for maximum repetition.

6. Original New York Steinway hammers custom sized and weighted for optimal and even sound and touchweight.

7. David Hughes’ methods and David Stanwood Protocol applied to hammers. Hammer weight regulation combined with custom accelerated weigh-off of keys.

8. New Renner damper (back) action, custom built by RPW. Damper guide rail double bushed to match original.

9. New Renner (German made) damper felt installed on original refinished damper heads and wires.

10. Meticulous regulation and voicing by Dean Reyburn, RPT and Alex Kapteyn of Central Michigan Pianos.

Restoration work by CMP:

1. New custom soundboard made with Alaska Sitka Spruce, with sitka spruce ribs (same material Steinway NY uses). Soundboard is scalloped and contoured exactly to factory original. Edges thinned as per factory (aka diaphragmatic soundboard).

2. New multi-ply hard-rock maple pinblock expertly fitted to the plate flange and stretcher for best tuning stability.

3. Newly restrung with Steinway strings, premium nickel plated tuning pins, Mapes (Steinway original) copper wound bass strings.

4. Plate refinished with Steinway gilding. Hitch pins polished.

5. New brass agraffes installed to insure reliability, positive string end points, and new piano sound.

6. Patents and logos hand lettered.

7. New perimeter bolts installed with plate.

8. New bridge caps of tight-grain, quarter sawn Michigan sugar maple, hand notched.

9. Restoration of trapwork (pedal mechanics under keybed).

10. Refinished with Ebony Nitro Cellulose lacquer to match original look.

11. New lid stick installed with integrated short stick.

12. Fallboard and soundboard decals which exactly duplicate original.

13. Castors, hinges, pedals, and other hardware newly nickel plated to match original.
