Reyburn Pianoworks offers three “keyboard class” packages that can help allocate a project’s budget. While these packages are a good place to start, please keep in mind that individual products and services can be added or subtracted “a la carte” to custom tailor each keyboard and action to your specific needs.
We’ve searched for the finest materials available - Pianos Bolduc Canadian Spruce, or our own sourced Maine USA white spruce, both with exclusive Reyburn optimized design keyboard blanks. We use only German made ebony sharps, German made nickel plated key pins, or WNG aluminum anodized pins. The felt and cloth going into our keyboards comes from Germany and England - the best available.
Each of our keyboards are designed specifically for your piano by our engineers with Computer Aided Design software, and built with our CNC robot under constant expert supervision. All front/balance rail mortises & capstans are CNC milled or drilled for highest accuracy. The final stages require expert woodworking skills using our custom machines to fit and sand the keys to perfectly match your piano.
We also offer alternative sized keyboard in 15/16 size (6.0” octaves) or 7/8 size (5.5” octaves) or any custom size. Our alternative sized keyboards always include our “Reyburn Ivocor “mineral plastic keytop. Ivocor is the same material, look and feel as Kluge’s “Tharan”, and has the look and feel pianists love.
Below, a 7/8 keyboard in progress for a Steinway M with new keyframe. We use a spruce keyblank with inset sugar (hard) maple (top and bottom) between back of keytops and in front of capstans. Beech key buttons are used for highest strength. Note the super accurate rectangular balance rail mortices. All mortising and drilling is designed on CAD and implemented on modern highly accurate CNC machines. The lines you see are all lasered, for accurate keytop placement and key cutting.
